For over 40 years, the Newlands Coal Mine (NCM) has produced thermal and metallurgical coal for export. It has now come to an end of its life and is ready for closure and rehabilitation. Glencore has engaged Liberty Industrial in the demolition of sections of the coal mine starting in 2024. The project involves the decommissioning, demolition and disposal of the Coal Handling Processing Plant (CHPP) and its supporting infrastructure. This will be undertaken across thirteen Defined Areas. The NCM site is located 140km west of Mackay, in the northern part of Queensland’s Bowen Basin. NCM is located approximately 32km from the township of Glenden.
