Overview

Liberty Industrial was engaged by McConnell Dowell to remove onsite assets damaged during the cyclone season at the Groote Eylandt wharf located southwest of Nhulunbuy township in the Northern Territory. Removal of the damaged asset and remediation of the area will make way for rebuilding the wharf.

Challenges

  • Unexpected and fast execution required to assist the client immediately.
  • Our client McConnell Dowell required swift project execution with tight project delivery timelines.
  • Due to several regulations governing the wharf operations, all the works need to be completed in the marine environment and not on land.

Robust Solutions/Exceptional Outcomes

Robust Solutions

  • Liberty Industrial supported the speedy delivery of the project by immediate mobilisation of plant and personnel to the site.
  • The damaged structures were studied by our qualified engineers and stabilisation works were conducted to facilitate the removal of key components.
  • To facilitate work in the marine environment, Liberty Industrial’s workshop team modified and deployed our existing excavators, shear, and attachments including the use of environmentally friendly hydraulic oils.
  • Deployment of owned subsea shears, remotely operated sub-drones and other subsea equipment.

Exceptional Outcomes

  • Safely disposal of the damaged assets without disruption to the natural surrounding marine environment.
  • Ability to mobilise within a short time frame.
  • Utilisation of Subsea equipment and Liberty Industrial personnel to conduct the operations.
  • In-house supply of all labour (crane operators, boilermakers, riggers).
