The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) commissioned Liberty Industrial to recover and salvage 63 shipping containers that were lost overboard from the YM Efficiency cargo ship off the coast of Newcastle, New South Wales.
Robust solutions
- Liberty Industrial worked closely with project partners Ardent Oceania and Avcon Projects Australasia to provide critical sorting, demolition and consolidation of containers that were not fit for transport or landing at the port on board the MV Pride IMR Vessel.
- Liberty Industrial’s 36t excavator was lifted onto the deck of the vessel by a port crane and retrofitted with rubber tracks to ensure manoeuvrability and minimal damage to the salvage vessel.
- Critical lifts were carried out using a hydraulic crane, rigging, remote underwater vehicles and a specially manufactured steel basket.
Exceptional outcomes
Debris recovered from the ocean during the salvage operation was transported to a specially constructed waste reception facility at the Port of Newcastle where the waste was classified, stored, transported and disposed of according to NSW Environmental Protection Authority waste guidelines.
