Sustainability

Clearing the way for a sustainable future

Since our beginnings in 2009, we’ve prioritised smarter, safer, and more effective solutions that deliver positive outcomes for our clients, communities, and the environment. Our business is fundamentally sustainable.

Sustainability has always been driving force in how we do business. From our first to our most recent projects, we’ve prioritised smarter, safer, and more effective solutions that deliver lasting positive impacts for our clients, communities, and the environment. We responsibly dismantle infrastructure and structures, using methods aligned with the circular economy to enable recycling and re-purposing of materials, carefully managing and removing hazardous materials, before remediating and rehabilitating the lands.

We are committed to advancing our sustainability performance and, to achieve this, we will continue to collaborate closely with our people, clients, suppliers and partners.

Scale adoption of circular practices

At Liberty Industrial, circular practices, reusing and recycling materials, restoring environments, and respecting human rights are central to our operations. With a proven record of achieving over 95% materials recovery on projects, we deliver positive environmental outcomes while creating value for stakeholders.

Our ISO-accredited Environmental Management System underpins our approach, setting high standards for recycling, restoration, and sustainability. From the outset of every project, we collaborate with like-minded suppliers to implement globally leading circular practices.

We’re committed to scaling these efforts, fostering innovation, and addressing human rights concerns within our supply chain, as outlined in our Modern Slavery Policy.

Through industry events and international awards, we share insights and inspire others to adopt circular solutions, driving sustainable progress across the sector.

Continuously innovate for safer outcomes

Safety is at the core of everything we do at Liberty Industrial. We are dedicated to ensuring that our people, clients, suppliers, and partners return home safely each day. This commitment drives continuous improvement, innovation, and a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Our robust Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies, part of our ISO 45001:2018 certified system, guide our operations to the highest safety standards. We empower employees to manage risks, prevent incidents, and enhance safety performance through data-driven programs, comprehensive training, and recognition of positive behaviours.

Mental health is equally vital. Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides 24/7 support, and we are actively rolling out Mental Health First Aid training to ensure team members can access help anytime, anywhere. At Liberty Industrial, safety means protecting both the physical and mental wellbeing of our people.

Be who everyone wants to work for

At Liberty Industrial, our people are the foundation of our success. Across Australia and the UK, our skilled and diverse team delivers some of the world’s most complex decommissioning, deconstruction, and remediation projects. We rely on inclusivity, collaboration, and innovative thinking to maintain our leadership in the industry.

We are committed to being an employer of choice by fostering an employee-centric culture built on accountability, open communication, and professional development. Clear career pathways, mobility opportunities, and recognition programs support our team’s growth and success.

Diversity and inclusion are core to our values. We actively address gender equality, including regular pay gap analyses and transparent reporting to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA). Our Graduate and Cadetship Programs provide practical experience and career development for the next generation of industry professionals.

By 2030, we aim to enhance employee engagement, improve work-life balance, increase leadership opportunities, and strengthen diversity across our workforce. These initiatives, informed by employee feedback, will ensure we continue to attract, retain, and empower the best people in the industry.

Deliver enduring positive impacts for communities

At Liberty Industrial, we take pride in making meaningful contributions to the diverse communities where we work. From sponsoring local initiatives to providing employment and training opportunities, our approach is tailored to meet the unique needs of each community.

Building strong, respectful relationships with Traditional Owners and First Nations peoples is central to our projects. Through our Healing Country Framework, we honor First Nations Cultural Heritage, engage in cultural awareness training, and collaborate with local communities to create employment and procurement opportunities.

We are committed to reconciliation, with plans to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan and integrate First Nations supplier considerations into our procurement processes. By fostering local partnerships and supporting economic growth, we aim to leave a lasting, positive impact on the communities we serve.

Expand expertise in nature-repair

At Liberty Industrial, we transform industrial sites into restored landscapes or prepare them for diverse futures. Collaborating with Traditional Owners, we apply First Nations land management principles to protect lands, waters, and ecosystems while delivering tailored place-based solutions for remediation and rehabilitation.

As clients increasingly prioritise restoration, we’re expanding expertise in land forming, ecology, and nature repair to offer innovative solutions. Guided by our Healing Country Framework and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, we align environmental and cultural practices to ensure sustainable outcomes.

With goals to scale our remediation and rehabilitation capabilities by 2030, we aim to lead in effective land restoration and contribute to a healthier environment for generations to come.

Reducing Our Environmental Impact

Liberty Industrial is committed to reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and minimising our environmental footprint. Our focus is on enhancing the fuel efficiency of our equipment, vehicles, and machinery, while exploring alternative fuel technologies to reduce reliance on diesel in the future.

Our Environmental Policy guides our efforts to minimise the impact of our operations through improved demolition, site remediation, and civil construction methods. We set energy and emissions targets for each project, working with like-minded suppliers to integrate renewable and hybrid energy options.

Through our Decarbonisation Roadmap, we aim to significantly reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030, 87.5% by 2040, and 98.4% by 2050. Our strategy includes increasing the use of zero-emissions equipment, reducing diesel consumption, and optimising energy efficiency in our operations.

Our priorities for the coming years include transitioning our vehicle fleet to electric alternatives, measuring and reporting GHG emissions, and collaborating with suppliers to enhance fuel efficiency and sustainable technologies.
