Liberty Industrial’s HBI Facility Demolition Shortlisted for a World Demolition Award
For the second consecutive year, Liberty Industrial’s Hot Briquetted Iron Facility Deconstruction Project has been shortlisted as a World Demolition Awards Finalist. The project has been shortlisted in the Industrial Demolition Award category.
The awards are held as part of the annual Word Demolition Summit. Now in its fifth year, this annual event is recognised as the leading international demolition industry event, attracting thousands of demolition professionals each year.
Liberty Industrial was the first Australian company to reach the finals of the World Demolition Awards when Stage 1 of Boodarie Hot Briquetted Iron Deconstruction Project was shortlisted in 2012. Now Stage 2 of the project has been shortlisted in 2013.
The project involved the demolition and removal of BHP Billiton’s Hot Briquetted Iron Facility in Boodarie, Western Australia. The project involved the demolition of the briquetting and reactor structures together with the adjacent gas plant.
Demolition of the facility in the Pilbara region of Western Australia was one of BHP’s top 10 risks worldwide. The project has been described as possibly the largest demolition project carried out in the southern hemisphere to date.
The winning projects will be announced at the 2013 World Demolition Summit held at the NH Grand Krasnaopolsky in Amsterdam on 31 October 2013.
