Liberty Industrial has been shortlisted as a finalist in two award categories for the 2020 World Demolition Awards.

Liberty Industrial’s Iluka Program of Demolition Work is a finalist in the 2020 World Demolition Awards in the ‘Industrial Demolition’ award category and Liberty Industrial’s Hanson Blackwattle Bay Concrete Batching Plant Demolition Project is shortlisted as a Finalist for Contract of the Year Under US$1M at the 2020 World Demolition Awards.

The Iluka Program of Demolition Work involved the delivery of a two year program of works comprising six demolition work packages involving the removal of mineral sands mining and processing facilities spread across several remote locations throughout Victoria and Western Australia.

Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material presented the project delivery team with a significant challenge, with large volumes of testing, segregation and decontamination required.
Working in Australia’s remote regions, the project delivery team faced the complexities of working in isolated locations with staffing and logistics requiring a high degree of planning and coordination.

Liberty Industrial’s Hanson Blackwattle Bay Concrete Batching Plant Demolition Project involved the removal of a harbourside Concrete Plant including the demolition of a large aggregate storage bin, concrete batch plant and interconnecting conveyor systems.

Loading restrictions associated with the operation of heavy duty high reach demolition excavators on and adjacent to the wharf meant that the works had to be executed in a highly choreographed sequence.

An innovative solution was adopted to protect pedestrians and vehicles from falling debris and projectiles with a large demolition screen constructed utilising recycled conveyor belts suspended from a mobile crane. This is the first time a screen of this type has ever been used in Australia.
